Maka Kulia takes its name from the Hawaiian maka, the eye, and kūlia, to strive for the highest standard. We chose it because it describes the work: viewing every claim with clarity, and not stopping until the picture is complete.
Maka Kulia is led by John McClure, P.E., a licensed electrical engineer in California, Texas, and Hawaii. His nineteen years in energy began in the U.S. Navy's nuclear propulsion program and have spanned traditional and advanced nuclear, oil and gas, and grid-connected solar. He led downhole electronics research for extreme-pressure, high-temperature service and rose to vice president of engineering at an oilfield services company, and he is a named inventor on a patent for downhole exploration tools. As chief engineer of a solar startup he owned power system design and operations for utility interconnection projects, and he currently works in instrumentation and controls at an advanced nuclear company. He holds an MBA, and reads the financial model as closely as the single line diagram. Every engagement is performed by him personally.
